Green Building Index (GBI) is Malaysia’s green rating tool for buildings and towns, created to promote sustainability in the built-environment and raise awareness of environmental issues.
A Green building focuses on increasing the efficiency of resource use – energy, water, and materials – while reducing building impact on human health and the environment during the building’s lifecycle, through better sitting, design, construction, operation, maintenance, and removal. Green Buildings should be designed and operated to reduce the overall impact of the built environment on its surroundings.
University College of Technology Sarawak (UCTS) is the very First University in Malaysia to achieve a GBI “Platinum Index” rating through its futuristically designed campus and state-of-the-art facilities. UCTS’ campus incorporates planning, design and green architecture simultaneously and effectively to create a fully integrated, comfortable, user-friendly and conducive for research, teaching and learning environment. UCTS has obtained the provisional Platinum rating in May 2015 for its campus and is undergoing further assessment to be awarded the full certification.
