It gives me great pleasure to welcome you to the website of University College of Technology Sarawak (UCTS).  This website is updated regularly to provide you with more complete and latest information on UCTS.  So please do visit us regularly to check out latest updates on UCTS.

UCTS is the culmination of the State of Sarawak’s vision and commitment in establishing a world-class institution of higher learning to spearhead the development and production of highly qualified and technically competent human resource for Sarawak and the region. Our vision is to be a global technical university founded on science and technology. UCTS will embark on strong industrial and international linkages to complement its teaching, research, entrepreneurial and innovation activities. The next few years will be an exciting period for UCTS as it goes through the process of establishing itself as the preferred university and the Apex for Technical Education in Sarawak. In line with the government’s plan to transform technical education, UCTS will provide the route and opportunity for students in technical and vocational education pursuing certificate and diploma level studies to pursue applied oriented bachelor programmes and also postgraduate level studies at UCTS.

Phase 1 of UCTS Platinum Index Green Building Campus at Persiaran Brooke, Sibu is now ready and being used by staff and students. UCTS’ main campus when fully completed will have a capacity to host a total of about 5,000 local and international students at undergraduate and postgraduate levels. You can now take a virtual tour of UCTS’ beautiful campus. The main facilities of UCTS among others now include three Lecture Theatres, thirty-five Laboratories, thirty-three classrooms, one main Library, student centre, six studios, one gallery and a cafeteria.

UCTS received its registration approval to commence operation from the Ministry of Education on 1st April, 2013. The 1st Intake of our Foundation in Science and Foundation in Arts programmes commenced in early June 2013. The one-year Foundation programmes prepare school leavers for entry into the degree programmes at UCTS. Four honours degree programmes commenced in September 2013 namely Bachelor of Civil Engineering, Bachelor of Quantity Surveying, Bachelor of Engineering Technology in Electrical & Electronics and Bachelor of Business Administration.

In 2014, UCTS introduced four new degree programmes namely Bachelor of Accounting, Bachelor of Science in Architecture, Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering, Bachelor of Computer Science (Software Engineering) and Bachelor of Computer Science (Network Computing). Students with recognised and suitable Diploma qualifications can be considered for Year 2 entry into the degree programmes (subject to credit transfer eligibility).

In the year 2015, UCTS introduced two new degree programmes namely Bachelor of Electrical Engineering (Power) and Bachelor of Food Technology. Three postgraduate programmes are also introduced in 2015 namely Master of Business Administration (MBA), Master of Engineering and PhD (Engineering). The introduction of postgraduate programmes are expected to strengthen UCTS R&D activities.

We have received approval for a new Bachelor of Manufacturing Engineering programme which is expected to take in new students in February 2017.

On 8th October 2016, UCTS held its first convocation for its 1st batch of 100 graduates. The event was preceded by the Proclamation of His Excellency The Governor of Sarawak, Tuan Yang Terutama Tun Pehin Sri Haji Abdul Taib Mahmud as UCTS 1st Canselor, who later confer the awards to the graduates.

Working closely with industry, adopting a broad-based with specialised curriculum and an applied approach towards teaching and learning using world-class facilities, UCTS will ensure that its graduates are groomed with the right values, knowledgeable, highly skilled and competent, market ready and able to meet the challenges of globalisation. UCTS faculty members will also undertake applied and industry-oriented research to support the development of local industries. UCTS plans to have its own Science & Technology Park next door to the university to support techno-entrepreneur development and provide the high-tech infrastructure needed for industrial-based research, development and innovation activities in collaboration with other institutions and industries in the region.
