The University Courses Unit (UCU) was established in April 2016 as part of UCTS’ efforts in fulfilling the requirements of the Malaysian Qualifications Agency (MQA) in which all Malaysian and non-Malaysian students must complete and pass the University Compulsory Subjects (UCS) and General Studies (Matapelajaran Umum or MPU) as a prerequisite for the award of a certificate, diploma or undergraduate degree. The Malaysian Ministry of Education (MOE) also requires MPU subjects to be included into every University’s academic planning to inculcate students with the skills and knowledge that are beyond the bounds of academic disciplines to produce more intellectual, balanced and holistic graduates.
Hence, UCU was established to function as an academic support unit that is responsible for assisting the respective schools in providing and coordinating University Compulsory Subjects (UCS) and General Studies (Mata Pelajaran Umum) to the students. Among the subjects offered under the unit are Hubungan Etnik, Tamadun Islam and Tamadun Asia (TITAS), Malaysian Economy, Entrepreneurship Skills, Communication in the Workplace, Professional English: Essential Communication Skills, Creativity and Innovation, Green Technology and Bahasa Malaysia.
This unit is headed by Dr Anita Rosli, and has a total of six permanent staff which consists of six lecturers and an administrative assistant.
