School of Computing and MCMC jointly held a two-day workshop to familiarise longhouse folks with ICT

Date:  26th – 27th May, 2017

A two-day workshop was held at Rumah Jimbun in Bawang Assan through the School of Computing (SOC)’s collaboration with MCMC (Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission) as part of the MCMC Society Initiative, myMaker.  The program was divided into three parts i.e. Drone workshop, 3D printing, and Internet of Things (IoT) awareness (through the utilisation of Raspberry Pi).  The workshop had the support of Mr. John Tay and Mr. Johnson Lam (both from MCMC ), SOC’s academic staff (Dr. Bakri Madon, Dr. Sim Yee Wai, Mr. Gary Loh) and students from the UCTS Dayak Youth Club.  

Objectives:

  • To promote ICT to the longhouses community 
  • To serve as a mean to bridge the digital divide gap between urban and rural communities in the area
