Students’ Industrial Visits and Study Tour to Kota Kinabalu

Date: 15th – 21st April 2018 (Sunday- Saturday)

To enhance student learning, the Food Technology Programme organised an industrial visit to Sabah from 15 to 21 April 2018.

In the six-day trip led by two lecturers, a group of fifteen students visited various food manufacturing facilities in the West Coast of Sabah such as Simply Chocolate Sdn. Bhd., C&F Enterprise, Sabah Meat Technology Centre, Desa Cattle (Sabah) Sdn. Bhd., Sabah Tea Farm and the Faculty of Food Science and Nutrition and Universiti Malaysia Sabah.

The study tour emphasized on experiential learning and enabled students to explore new learning environment. This study tour provided new learning experiences to the students especially knowledge about manufacturing process in beverages, bakery, meat products, ready-to-eat meals and snack food.

Objectives

  • To introduce and provide hands-on experience to students of Bachelor of Food Technology on various food products namely beverages, bakery, meat products, ready-to-eat meals and snack food as well as the education and government agencies.
  • To develop and strengthen UCTS R&D collaboration with local companies in Kota Kinabalu.
