Opportunities In Research And Human Capital Development

The Sarawak State Government has launched an economic development initiative known as Sarawak Corridor of Renewable Energy (SCORE).  SCORE is a new development corridor in central Sarawak, covering five major growth areas, Tanjung Manis, Samalaju, Mukah, Baram and Tunoh.  The main objectives are to accelerate the state’s economic growth, and to improve the quality of life for the people of Sarawak.

Ten key industries that have been identified for the development include tourism, oil, aluminium, metals, glass, fishing, aquaculture, livestock, forestry, ship building, and palm oil.

To support this initiative, the demand for better and more infrastructures is inevitable.  New roads, railroads and airports to provide efficient transportation of goods and to connect these five major growth areas must be created.  New townships, houses, schools, hospitals, and other facilities will also be required alongside these developments which in turn demand for better water supply scheme and efficient sewerage system.

With these in view, School of Engineering and Technology, University College of Technology Sarawak (UCTS) shall take the central role to provide the consultancy services together with the human capital development.
