Research Summary: This paper presents a work on power quality comparison between on grid and off grid renewable energy. The on grid power source is from hydro power plant. Solar and wind power are the sources for the off grid renewable energy. Poor power quality of the renewable energy sources is characterized by electrical disturbances such as voltage sags, swells and harmonics. The power quality in this research will be compared by detecting voltage sag and voltage swell event in the power generated from the power sources. The percentage of the events occurred in every sources will be calculated. The least events occurred in the power source is identified as the cleanest renewable energy power source. The method is developed by using Microsoft Excel. The real interrupted signal data will be obtained from Energy Management & Storage System. The database will be used in comparing the power quality between the various types of renewable energy mentioned before. The results will be used to identify the cleanest renewable energy power source. The same method and analysis are also to determine whether wind power source has higher quality of power compared to solar as the off grid power supply. Forward strategies to reach this target will be recommended.
