Research Summary:  The purpose of this project is to predict the material properties by using vibration of wave analysis during drilling process via mathematical equation.  Generally, material with high mechanical properties exhibits low damping capacity and vice versa.  The main objective of this project is to develop a mathematical model with relationship between the wave parameters and the strengths of materials. Aluminum alloy 1100, stainless steel 304, and mild steel were selected as the specimens to be drilled using CNC machine.  The vibration wave was captured using a structure bond transducer and recorded using a DAQ system.  In this study, a noise factor was omitted.  The wave parameters such as maximum amplitude, vibration energy, and the RMS value were extracted using MATLAB software.  This mathematical model is known as the Vibration Mechanical Properties Math Model (Vibmp) in which the value determined is based on the vibration energy.  Expected outcome from this project was that the wave parameters increased exponentially as the strengths of materials increased.  Besides this, the results of the analysis on Vibmp values are capable of predicting the mechanical properties of the metal material.
